Synchronoss chief urges operators to cash in on trust
Glenn Lurie
CEO, Synchronoss
INTERVIEW: Synchronoss CEO Glenn Lurie (pictured) encouraged operators to leverage their status as trusted connectivity providers to develop new revenue-generating services, arguing their reputation offers an advantage in an environment where data privacy is highly valued.
Lurie told Mobile World Live as smartphones have increasingly become the hub of people’s lives, most of the data contained on them has been entrusted to operators.
While edge providers face tough questions around how they are using data, operators have “an inherent opportunity” to “take that trust and utilise that to the next level of what people are willing to allow and do”.
He pointed to potential use cases across enterprise, healthcare, smart cities, connected cars and industrial IoT, adding operators should also explore new opportunities related to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
As businesses closed during the pandemic resume operations, he said people are going to want to “see a little sign that says this building is safe. I know it sounds goofy but that’s where we’re headed…the opportunity for our industry to bring that is there”.
