Resolution Games boss expects slicing bonus

INTERVIEW: Resolution Games CEO Tommy Palm tipped network slicing to provide a boost for gaming applications, but highlighted the need for operators and developers to work together to enable next generation experiences for consumers.
Palm told Mobile World Live – as part of its 5G Themed Week programme – network slicing could be “really helpful” in “improving reliability for key aspects of the network where failure is not an option”.
But, to fulfil the technology’s promise and that of 5G more broadly in gaming, Palm said developers need to work closely with operators as they set up the necessary infrastructure to ensure it works well for players and potential spectators.
He explained “it really helps us as a developer to understand better what we can do and what we can expect networks to do”. “When we design games we often bring the limitations into the design of the game itself, but once the game is there it’s hard to change it. So, typically in the development process you want to be as informed as possible.”
Palm also offered his thoughts on how 5G might boost gaming revenue opportunities.
