Rakuten Symphony, OpenAI aim to tune-up networks
Rakuten Symphony inked a deal with ChatGPT-creator OpenAI to develop telecoms-focused AI applications, focusing on solving network issues alongside tools to improve customer experience.
The partners claimed the combination would take advantage of Rakuten's “industry-leading expertise in open RAN technology” and OpenAI's “unparalleled capabilities in AI”.
Rakuten explained the tie-up is aimed at addressing the “unique needs and challenges” of operators when building and managing mobile networks through new solutions.
As part of the deal, OpenAI will support Rakuten’s platform to include services claimed to enable operators to better “detect and resolve network issues in real time” and improve network performance and overall operations to meet customer needs.
The collaboration builds on the pair’s existing strategic partnership rooted in combining expertise in open RAN and AI.
Chief Data Officer at Rakuten Ting Cai argued the telecoms industry is at a point “where it must adapt to modern technologies or be left behind”, adding open RAN and cloud have created “a perfect environment for large scale AI applications”.
