GSMA ties with satellite body in network convergence drive
The GSMA unveiled a partnership with the Global Satellite Operators Association (GSOA) with the aim of fostering the integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.
The two associations plan to combine their respective expertise and resources to explore “new frontiers” in technology and exploit synergies between mobile and satellite technologies.
Joint activities will focus on technologies and applications that utilise the strengths of both satellite and mobile networks, such as 5G integration, IoT connectivity, remote sensing and global coverage solutions.
Isabelle Mauro, Director General of the GSOA, said creating a seamless and ubiquitous communications infrastructure “will help accelerate digital inclusion and digital transformation, including in areas that are currently unserved or underserved”.
“As 5G and 6G continue to evolve, this convergence becomes paramount in building a reliable, secure, robust and globally connected world,” she said.
Mats Granryd, Director General at the GSMA, noted that the collaborative agreement “marks a significant milestone in the evolution of telecommunications, signalling a shift towards a more interconnected and resilient global network infrastructure”.
GSOA describes itself as the only global non-profit association of the entire satellite ecosystem. The CEO-driven association’s remit is to provide a unified voice for the satellite industry.
